Paid $380 for a 'lifetime' warranty repair, ended up buying a second unit

My dehumidifier died after 14 months and the company said the lifetime warranty only covers parts, not labor or shipping. After the $380 quote I just bought a new one for $220 and now I'm wondering if any warranty is actually worth it anymore. Has anyone else had a warranty claim cost more than just replacing the thing?

…and honestly that's exactly why I stopped trusting those "lifetime" promises years ago. They always find a way to make it sound great until you actually need it, then suddenly labor and shipping are on you and the math never works out. I had a similar thing with a fridge that had a 10 year compressor warranty, but the part was $90 and the tech wanted $250 to install it, so I just bought a new one on sale. It's like they bank on you either giving up or paying more than the item is worth just to feel like you didn't waste the original purchase. You're not alone here, and it kind of makes you wonder if warranties are just a marketing trick at this point.
