Paid $80 for a 'magic' stain remover that was basically just vinegar
I saw this ad on Instagram for a stain remover that claimed to get red wine out of anything in seconds. Spent $80 on a 3-bottle pack because I'm clumsy and spill stuff all the time lol. First use on a carpet stain? It did absolutely nothing different than plain white vinegar. I tested it side by side with the $3 bottle from the grocery store and couldn't tell the difference. Has anyone else fallen for those overpriced cleaning hacks and just felt dumb after?

Oh, the "works in seconds" part got me too. But listen, I don't think vinegar is actually the magic ingredient here, it's more like the acidity helps break stuff down but it's not a one-size-fits-all thing. Red wine stains especially need something with a bit of hydrogen peroxide or even just club soda to lift the color, not just acid. I've fallen for those overpriced "miracle" sprays before and it's always the same story. Just try a dab of dish soap and cold water next time, seriously, it's cheaper and works way better than vinegar or those expensive bottles.

Red wine on our sofa last month taught me the same lesson the hard way.
