Serious question, was convinced those expensive noise canceling headphones were a scam until I tried a pair at the airport last week

I always thought paying over $200 for headphones was just marketing hype... but after 4 hours in terminal C at Dallas Fort Worth with crying babies and gate announcements, I caved and put on my buddy's Sony XM5s. The difference was wild. Felt like someone turned down the volume on the whole world. Now I'm looking at my own budget pair and wondering if I've been missing out this whole time. Anyone else have a similar moment where a pricey tech thing actually lived up to the hype?

Read somewhere that Bose actually started making noise canceling tech for pilots in the 80s so pilots could hear radio chatter over the engine roar. That made me realize this wasn't just some gimmick for rich people, it was legit engineering. Makes sense why even budget copies can't touch the real thing now.

Ha, guess my cheap earbuds weren't made for fighter jets. Go figure.
