The 'simple' ceiling fan install that ate my whole Saturday

I bought a new ceiling fan at Lowe's in Austin thinking it would take 2 hours max. Took me 9 hours because the old mounting bracket was welded to the box with rust and the new one didn't line up. I had to drive back for different bolts twice, and my neck still hurts from looking up. Has anyone else had a 'quick' home repair turn into a full day project? What was your time estimate versus reality?

9 hours" is nothing, I once spent a whole Sunday replacing a toilet and ended up having to cut the old supply line out with a hacksaw because someone had painted over the shutoff valve. Rust is like the revenge of every previous homeowner who half-assed their DIY.
