Vent: I thought those 'noise cancelling' headphones were just hype until my flight to Chicago
I bought a pair on sale for $80 before my trip, thinking they'd just be okay. The second I put them on during takeoff, the engine roar just... vanished. It was so quiet I could hear my own breathing. Now I'm torn, because part of me feels like it's a weird way to cut yourself off, but the other part loves the peace. Has anyone else had a moment where a gadget you doubted totally won you over?

What took you so long to join the quiet club? I held out for years thinking it was all a scam, then I tried my friend's pair on a bus full of screaming kids and my whole world changed (my face probably looked so dumb, just sitting there in shocked silence). That weird cut-off feeling is real though, sometimes I take one ear off just to make sure the world is still there, spinning and making its usual racket.

Totally feel you @taylor_flores, I did the same thing lol. That first moment of pure quiet is like your brain rebooting, almost scary how peaceful it is. I still do the one-ear check sometimes too, just to make sure I haven't gone deaf haha.

My first pair made me jump when my wife tapped my shoulder. I hadn't heard her walk in, the kettle boiling, or the dog barking for twenty minutes. That total silence is unnerving at first, like being in a sensory deprivation tank. You get used to the peace, but the initial shock is real.
