Warning: I asked a simple question about my car's check engine light on a forum and got a whole new hobby

My old truck's light came on last week, so I posted on a car help forum asking what the code P0420 meant. I figured someone would just say 'catalytic converter' and that would be it. Instead, this one guy wrote back a huge, friendly guide on how to check the oxygen sensors first with a cheap $20 tool from Harbor Freight. I was bored, so I tried it. Turns out, the upstream sensor was just dirty. Cleaning it fixed the light. I learned that asking 'anything' can open a door you never expected to walk through. Now I'm weirdly into reading engine codes for fun. Has anyone else picked up a random skill just from asking a dumb question online?

catalytic converter" and that would be it - that's the wild part. Most people don't realize half the time it's just a lazy sensor or some carbon buildup. The real trap is once you fix one thing you start hearing every little noise your car makes. Now I can't unhear my truck's alternator whine.
