Lawyer pushed me to settle and I thought it was lazy, but the math worked out

I was ready to fight a $3,000 contractor dispute here in Denver, but my attorney said settling for $1,800 was smarter. After factoring in court costs and two days of missed work, she was right. Has anyone else had a lawyer recommend something you doubted that ended up being the better move?

Your lawyer made a solid call on the numbers, but you lose something when you settle. The contractor might feel they got away with cutting corners if nobody pushes back in court. Sometimes standing your ground is worth more than the cash difference.

You said "you lose something when you settle," but what exactly are we talking about losing here? Is it just the feeling of being heard, or is there some practical downside to settling that actually matters in the long run? I mean, if the numbers make sense now, isn't that the real win even if the other guy walks away thinking he got one over on you?
