Small claims court in my city vs just letting it go - which is smarter?

I got into a dispute with a contractor over $700 for a fence job they never finished. Filing fees are $75 and I'd lose a Saturday, but letting it slide feels like handing them a free pass. Anyone else been in this spot and regret one choice over the other?

Stop right there - they left you with an unfinished fence and walked away with your money? That's not just a dispute, that's basically theft of your time and materials. For $75 and one Saturday, I'd see them in court just so they have to explain themselves to a judge.
