Watched a court hearing in person last Tuesday and noticed how much the lawyers relied on their paralegals

I sat in on a civil case at the county courthouse in Cleveland and was surprised how often the attorneys would whisper to their assistants during testimony. One lawyer even had a paralegal hand him a specific binder with tabs mid-questioning. Has anyone else noticed how much prep work actually happens live in the courtroom?

Gotta admit I felt this one deep. I'm pretty sure half my job is just making sure the lawyers I work with don't forget where they left their own notes.

Noticed this same thing sitting in on my kid's school board meeting of all places. It's not just courtrooms anymore. Everywhere you look the people who seem like they're in charge are actually just getting handed stuff by the people doing the real work. I watched the principal whisper to his secretary three times before he could answer a simple question about the budget. It's like we've built this whole system where the person with the title is just a middleman for the person with the knowledge.
