Camped out at Cherry Springs last month for Milky Way shots
Drove 4 hours to Cherry Springs State Park in Pennsylvania. Darkest sky I've ever seen, no light pollution at all. Set up my tripod around 2 AM and got maybe 15 clear frames before clouds rolled in. Has anyone else found a spot that beats the Bortle 1 zones for astrophotography?

oh man, I've been to Cherry Springs a few times and yeah, that place is unreal when the weather cooperates. the thing that gets me is how fast the clouds can roll in there, you blink and the whole sky is gone. one tip that's saved me a lot of frustration is checking the Clear Dark Sky chart for the specific date before I even think about driving out. I mean, it's not perfect but it gives you a solid idea of cloud cover and seeing conditions. another thing idk if you've tried yet is heading up to one of the remote coastal spots in Maine, like around the Acadia area in the off season. the sky there is almost as dark as Cherry Springs but the air is usually drier so you get less haze. just a heads up though, the bugs can be brutal if you go in summer.
