Debate: Do edited astro photos lose their scientific value?
I saw a photo of Andromeda last week in this group that was heavily processed with noise reduction and color stretching. It looked amazing, but it got me thinking. Three years ago I went to a star party near Tucson where this old-school astronomer said any photo that isn't raw loses its scientific integrity. But then last month I processed my own shot of the Orion Nebula and honestly had to tweak the levels just to show the dust lanes. Where do we draw the line between art and science in astrophotography? Does a photo stop being 'real' after you adjust contrast? I'm curious how other people in this community handle it.

But doesn't tweaking levels just show what was already there?

@jesse_cooper Nah, it's more like finally seeing the real deal.
