Got told my Andromeda shots were 'too blue' at the astrophotography meetup
I always edited my galaxy photos to have a strong blue tint because I thought it looked dramatic. Then a guy at the local club showed me his neutral calibration and I realized I was masking the real hydrogen-alpha colors. How do you guys balance artistic color versus scientific accuracy in your edits?

The hydrogen-alpha data is literally the physics of what's happening out there, hiding those real colors feels like erasing the actual science for a vibe. If we all just cranked the blue because it looks cooler, we'd end up with every galaxy looking like the same instagram filter.

The scientific crowd can get a little preachy about color accuracy, but art is all about how it makes you feel. A blue Andromeda looks striking and otherworldly, which is why most of us got into this hobby in the first place. Doesn't a dramatic, stylized shot draw in more people than a scientifically flat one?
