My buddy Mark at the observatory rewired how I shoot the moon
We were out at Cherry Springs last weekend and he showed me his single exposure of the moon that was way sharper than my 50 shot stack. He said 'you're pushing too hard on the processing, just nail the focus and shutter speed right the first time'. It hit different because I'd been stacking for months thinking more data equaled better results, but his one clean shot made me realize I was overcomplicating things. Has anyone else had a moment where someone showed you a simpler way that totally outdid your complicated method?

Wait, only one exposure? That's insane. How did he nail the focus that perfectly?

That one shot thing is honestly way overblown if you ask me. With modern digital cameras and good technique, nailing focus on a single frame is not that crazy especially if you know your gear inside out. People act like he's some kind of wizard but really it's just knowing how to meter and work the lens right.
