My friend thought my star cluster photo was just a bunch of dust on the lens.

I mean, it made me see how some folks don't get astronomy at all.

Honestly, that 'real place' thing with binoculars worked for me too.

What was the exact moment you looked at the moon and it clicked, where it went from a flat circle to a real ball of rock? I wonder if @cole_lee9 had a similar specific instant. For me it was tracing the line of a crater wall and suddenly feeling the depth.

Used to think the moon was just a bright circle in the sky. Then I looked through some cheap binoculars one clear night and saw all the craters and shadows. It stopped being a flat picture and became a real place, you know? That changed everything for me about looking up. So now I get why a star cluster is more than just specks.
