My telescope mount took a swim at a lake campsite in Oregon

Last month I set up my goto mount on a wooden dock at Crater Lake thinking it would be the perfect flat spot. About an hour into shooting the Orion Nebula, the dock shifted and the whole tripod tipped sideways into the water. The mount was toast, but the camera survived because it landed on the dock. Now I only set up on solid ground and I bring a cheap level to double check the surface. Has anyone else lost gear to a bad setup spot, or am I the only one who learned this the hard way?

Did you at least grab the mount before it fully sank, or was it gone in one splash?
