Overheard a guy at the observatory say nebula photos are 'just cloud patterns'

Some visitor in line for the telescope last night literally called the Orion Nebula a 'cloud pattern' and said our filters are fake. I didn't say anything but it got me thinking how many people just don't get what goes into stacking 200 exposures for one shot. Has anyone else dealt with someone dismissing your work like that?

Did they double down when you tried to explain the exposure stacks?

Oh man, that's exactly what happened. A buddy of mine tried to walk this one guy through a simple five exposure bracket, and the guy just kept saying "but the histogram looks fine." My friend was like, "you're clipping the highlights on the sky, you need to blend these," but the dude wouldn't budge. He'd already convinced himself his method was perfect and got real defensive about it. In my experience, some people just have to learn the hard way, even when you're handing them the answer.
