Serious question, how many of you actually use a Bahtinov mask for focusing?
I was helping my cousin set up his new telescope in his backyard near Flagstaff last night, and he asked me why I was still messing with the focus knob for so long on my DSLR. I told him I was trying to get a sharp star, and he just said, 'Dude, just print a Bahtinov mask... it takes all the guesswork out.' I'd always thought they were a bit of a gimmick or for people with really fancy gear. But I tried his homemade cardboard one on my 200mm lens, and wow... seeing those three diffraction spikes line up perfectly in about 30 seconds was a game changer. No more zooming in and out on the screen a hundred times hoping it looks right. It felt like I'd been doing things the hard way for years for no real reason. Has anyone else had a simple tool completely change their imaging routine like that?

My buddy had the same moment with a cheap laser collimator.
