That guy in the forum said my star tracker was overkill, he was right
Six months ago I posted a question about shooting the Milky Way with a cheap camera and someone told me to skip the $400 tracker and just stack 30 second shots. I ignored it, bought the tracker, and now it sits in my closet because I only shoot widefield anyway. The stacked shots came out just as sharp after I learned DeepSkyStacker. Has anyone else wasted money on gear a stranger on the internet warned them about?

The part about the tracker sitting in your closet hit home for me, I used to swear by getting the most expensive gear first. Then I borrowed a friend's tracker for a weekend and realized my stacked widefield shots looked nearly identical without it. Now I tell everyone to master stacking before dropping cash on anything motorized, it saves a lot of regret.

Same thing happened to me with a goto mount. I bought one thinking it would fix all my framing problems, but honestly my best shots came from just manually slewing and letting the camera run. Sometimes the simple stuff really is the answer.
