TIL the light dome over my town in southern Utah has gotten so bad I can barely see the Milky Way anymore
I drove 20 minutes outside of St. George last Saturday to try and shoot the Milky Way and the whole eastern sky was just this orange glow from all the new neighborhoods going up. Ten years ago from my own backyard I could get decent shots with just a 30 second exposure, now even at ISO 3200 there's nothing but noise and haze. Has anyone in here dealt with light pollution creeping into their usual spots, and did you just keep driving further out or find some other workaround?
Laughing at myself because I bought a fancy star tracker last year thinking it would fix everything, and now I just get blurry orange photos instead of sharp orange photos. I'm up in Cedar City and it's the same deal, the new subdivisions off the highway lit up that whole ridge in like two years. I've been driving out past Newcastle toward the county line, which adds about 40 minutes, but even there the glow is creeping in from both sides now. Honestly my workaround has just been shooting narrowband stuff or catching the Milky Way when it's straight overhead instead of near the horizon where all that junk sits.
