Can we talk about how long it took me to find the right noise canceling headphones

I spent 3 months trying different headphones because I need complete quiet to focus at work. Finally tried the Sony WH-1000XM5 at a Best Buy in Austin and they actually block out the AC hum and my coworker's clicking pen. I wish I had just gone to test them in person day one instead of reading reviews online. Has anyone else wasted time trying to pick the right sensory gear?

Man my best friend went through the exact same thing last year. She was working from home with a barking dog next door and kept ordering different headphones off Amazon, sending them back, trying another pair. She must have done that like five or six times over two months. Finally she just drove to the electronics store and tried on every single pair they had in stock, took her maybe twenty minutes to find the ones that actually worked. She said she felt so stupid for all that wasted time reading reviews when she could have just gone and felt the weight and tested the noise blocking right there. Now she tells everyone to just go try them in person first, skip all the online research.

My friend bought four different pairs online before her husband just dragged her to the store.

Four pairs is rookie numbers honestly.
