Found a good way to handle loud places that actually worked for me

I always hated going to the mall, especially the food court with all the noise. Last month, I tried putting in my regular earplugs but also wearing a baseball cap pulled down low. The cap blocked a lot of the overhead lights and the visual chaos, which made the whole thing way less overwhelming. Has anyone else tried something simple like that to cut down on both sound and light at once?
