Heard a cashier say 'everyone's a little autistic' at the grocery store yesterday
Honestly, it was during a busy time at the Safeway on 5th, and I was just trying to check out. Ngl, it made me think about how often people say that without realizing it can minimize the actual daily experience. What's a good way to gently correct someone when they say stuff like that?

Come on, it's just a figure of speech. People say things like that to be nice and find common ground. Getting upset over a harmless comment at the checkout line is a bit much.

Heard about a friend who got that comment while buying baby formula. She was struggling to pay and the cashier said "must be nice" about her having a kid. Kinda shows how those little remarks can hit different when you don't know someone's situation.

Wince every time I hear that line. It turns a real condition into a vague personality quirk, and it does minimize the daily grind for people on the spectrum. Blakeharris might call it harmless, but it's the kind of thing that makes someone feel unseen when they're just trying to buy groceries. A simple "actually, it's a bit more complex than that" can plant a seed without starting a fight.
