Just realized how different my last two therapists were for handling shutdowns

My old one would just ask 'what's wrong' over and over, but my new one in Austin quietly suggested a weighted blanket and gave me space for 15 minutes. Has anyone else found a specific approach that actually helps during those moments?

Wait your old therapist just kept asking what's wrong while you were shutting down? That's like the worst possible move, it just adds more pressure. The weighted blanket idea is genius, my friend's therapist suggested compression clothing too. Having someone who actually gets it makes all the difference.

Three sessions with a blanket got me further than six months with my old therapist, @elliot_miller22.

My last therapist kept asking "what's wrong" every two minutes when I'd go quiet. It made me feel like a broken machine she was trying to fix. Reading skyler_anderson65's point about pressure made me realize that's exactly what it was. My new guy just sits with the quiet or suggests a grounding exercise, and it feels so much safer.
