It's the same thing with adults and clear instructions at work, honestly.

I read somewhere that visual schedules work because they take the guessing out of transitions for kids. Like, adults know what's coming next, but little kids are just along for the ride until you spring something on them. My nephew's preschool teacher used a picture chart with velcro pieces and it was honestly night and day with his tantrums. The morning routine one with teeth brushing and shoes and all that seemed to help him feel like he had some control too. It's wild how such a simple thing can make such a huge difference.
