My Tuesday was a sensory nightmare because of a broken air conditioner

The AC at my local library in Springfield gave out, and the constant low hum from the backup unit was just slightly off pitch. It felt like a drill in my ear for two solid hours while I tried to read. I had to leave early and just sit in my quiet car for a while to reset. Has anyone else had a public space ruined by a weird, persistent noise like that?

Ugh, the grocery store freezer section has that same awful buzz.
