The day I realized I was over-explaining everything to my own son
My kid is 9 and diagnosed last spring at the Marcus Center in Atlanta. I spent a whole year narrating every single step of every routine, thought I was being helpful. Then his therapist asked me why I was giving him a 12-step lecture about putting on shoes, and it hit me that I was treating him like he couldn't understand, not like he needed less noise. Has anyone else had that moment where your own habit was the actual problem, not the autism?
