Unpopular opinion: I quit ABA for speech therapy and my son finally talks to me
Six months ago my 5 year old was doing 15 hours a week of ABA in Plano and barely saying 2 words a day, so my wife and I chose between sticking with it or trying a speech only approach. We made the switch in March and he went from 2 words to full sentences asking for his blue cup and telling me about his day. Has anyone else here walked away from ABA and felt guilty about it even when you saw real progress?
Went through something similar with my daughter when she was four and we dropped the intensive stuff for play based speech twice a week. The guilt hit me hard for months, like I was giving up on her or something, but watching her actually start talking made it easier to sit with that feeling. Give yourself credit for listening to what your kid needed instead of what the plan said.
