Appreciation post: the old guy at the parts counter in Flint got me to quit slapping pads on without checking rotors
I used to just toss new pads on and send it if the rotor looked okay from the outside. Then last month a guy at the counter in Flint pulled a rotor off the shelf and ran his fingernail across it, and it caught on a lip he said was about 1.5mm deep. He said, "You can't see that from the wheel side, and it'll eat your new pads in 8 months." I've been measuring thickness on every brake job since and already found two customers riding on rotors under spec. How do you all sell the rotor job when the pads are still fine?
