Factory service manual vs YouTube video: which one actually saved my butt

Last month I was chasing a weird knock on a 2014 F-150, and the YouTube video I found made it look like a 20 minute job. Turns out the guy skipped the part about dropping the oil pan to get to the rear main seal, which cost me 3 extra hours. I pulled out the factory manual from my old Ford subscription and it had the exact torque sequence and the special tool part number I needed. I get the appeal of free videos, but has anyone else found that the manuals pay for themselves when you're stuck on something weird?
