Found a weird trick for getting a stuck caliper bolt out

Honestly, I was about to give up on this 2012 Civic's rear brake job because the lower caliper bolt was seized solid. Tried heat, a breaker bar, even an impact gun with no luck. Then I remembered an old timer at the shop saying to hit the bolt head hard with a punch and hammer a few times while applying steady pressure with the wrench. Did that for maybe 30 seconds and it finally broke loose with a loud crack. Has anyone else had this work on a Honda, or was I just super lucky?

That old timer knew his stuff, it's basically shock therapy for rusty bolts. William's right though, at that point you're just hitting it with a hammer from a fancy angle. Glad it worked before you snapped the head off, those Civic bolts are a known nightmare.

Yeah those Civic exhaust manifold bolts are the WORST. I keep a can of PB Blaster and a torch in my garage just for them. Heat it up, let it cool, then hit it with the impact.

Nice, but that's not a punch, it's a hammer.
