Found out the flat rate for a water pump on a 2015 Civic pays 1.3 hours and I just laughed
Pulled it up on AllData after a guy argued with me about his bill and turns out the book time has barely moved since I started turning wrenches in 2012. Book says 1.3, real world on a rusty northern car is closer to 3, so guess who eats that. How do you guys handle it when the labor guide and the actual job are nowhere close?
Man that 1.3 book time is a joke for anyone who has actually touched one of these. Rust belt cars turn a 20 minute job into a whole afternoon of soaking bolts and praying nothing snaps. I have been there on jobs where the book says 2 hours and I am still under it at hour 4 with bloody knuckles. You end up eating the difference or the customer thinks you are robbing them, there is no winning. Respect for sticking with it, that job is brutal on a northern car.
