Hot take: I tried dielectric grease on a connector that kept throwing a P0340 and it made things worse
Had a 2006 Frontier come in last month with a P0340 code that kept coming back after the customer had already replaced the cam sensor twice on his own. I pulled the connector, saw some green crust on the pins, cleaned it up and figured a little dielectric grease would keep moisture out and solve it for good. Slapped it together, cleared the code, and three days later the truck is back on a tow truck with a misfire and the same code plus a P0335. Turns out I packed way too much grease in there and it actually pushed the pins apart just enough to break contact when the motor got warm. Spent two hours chasing my own mistake before I popped the connector off and saw the grease squeezed out everywhere like a kid with a toothpaste tube. Cleaned it all out, used a tiny dab on the seal only like you are supposed to, and it has been fine for six weeks now. Wound up eating the diagnostic time because I was not about to charge the guy for me making it worse. Any of you got a rule for how much grease is actually too much on these older Nissan connectors?
