Looked at my work log and realized I've done over 500 brake jobs

I was cleaning out my toolbox and found my old paper log from my first shop job. I started adding them up out of curiosity. It's been 12 years, and the number hit 527. That's just brake pads and rotors, not counting full caliper swaps or bigger jobs. It's wild to think about all those cars, from little Civics to heavy trucks, all stopping because of work I did. Makes me feel old, but also kind of proud in a weird way. Has anyone else ever tallied up a specific repair they've done a crazy number of times?

Ever wonder how many miles of brake pad material you've worn down? That's a lot of friction you've managed, literally shaping the road surface a tiny bit at a time with every stop. Does it make you view the wear on your own car's parts differently, knowing you've seen it from the other side so many times? The sheer physical repetition must build a kind of muscle memory that's hard to explain to someone who hasn't done it.

Oh man, that's a wild way to think about it. I just replaced my own pads and felt weirdly guilty about all that dust. It's like my car is slowly shedding its skin onto the street.
