Lost 3 hours on a timing light that was just a bad ground
Tore my hair out chasing a spark issue on a buddy's 98 Civic, replaced the coil and everything, turns out my cheap timing light was grounding through a rusty fender bolt... Anyone else ever chase a ghost because their own tool was lying to them?

Wait, you swapped the coil before checking the ground on your own tool? That timing light was still reading spark, just telling you it was weak or something, right?
Bad grounds are the worst because they make good parts look broken. I've learned the hard way to test the tester first before I start throwing parts at it.
