Old timer told me to trust torque specs not feel

Guy named Carl at the shop in Portland. He swore I was over tightening head bolts by hand. I ignored him for 6 months. Warped two cylinder heads before I finally bought a digital torque wrench and followed the manual. So who here goes by feel and who sticks to the numbers?

Stopped trusting feel completely after I snapped a bolt on an intake manifold from over tightening. Used to think the numbers were just suggestions for factory robots or something. Now I keep a printed torque chart in my toolbox and still double check it before every job... saved me more headaches than I can count.

Nah @patwest, feel is way better than a torque wrench because you actually learn the metal's limit instead of just trusting some chart made for perfect conditions lol.
