Overheard a young tech say 'the computer told me' and it got me thinking

I was at a shop in Dayton last week and this kid kept saying the scan tool told him what was wrong. He spent 2 hours swapping parts based on a code for a misfire on a 2015 Civic. Turned out it was just a cracked vacuum hose near the intake. I remember learning to diagnose by listening to the engine and checking spark plugs first, not just plugging in a box. Don't get me wrong, scanners are great tools, but they ain't the whole story. Anyone else see younger guys leaning too hard on electronics instead of using their ears and hands?

Honestly, haven't we swapped one kind of trust for another? Back then people trusted their instincts and experience, now they're trusting a machine that can't smell a vacuum leak or feel a rough idle. Ngl, that young guy might have fixed it faster if he'd just closed the laptop and listened to the damn engine for a minute.
