I finally tried shipping my car open carrier instead of enclosed and the bill was $400 less but now I'm not so sure
Moved my Camry from Phoenix to Denver last summer and went with an open carrier to save money. The quote came in at $850 versus $1,250 for enclosed, so I figured a few bugs and some dust were worth 400 bucks. Car showed up with a cracked side mirror and a nice layer of grime that took two washes to get off, and the driver just shrugged and pointed at his paperwork. So which is it, do you eat the risk to save cash or pay up for peace of mind? Curious what others have run into with open transport on a long haul.
Wait, hold up, the driver isn't off the hook just cause of his paperwork. Carriers are liable for damage that happens while your car is in their hands, that's what the bill of lading and their insurance is for. You should've filed a claim before you signed off and drove away, cracked mirror during transit is on them, not on you for picking open.
