I think paying a broker to ship my car was a waste of $950

Everyone in this group swears by brokers for long distance moves, but when I moved my Civic from Austin to Denver the broker just handed my job to a guy with a trailer who showed up 3 days late and left a scuff on my bumper. I booked direct with a carrier on my next move and paid $700 with zero hassle. Did I just get a bad broker, or is paying the middleman overrated for most people?

Used to think brokers were a must for anything over 500 miles. Then I got quotes direct from carriers and they were $200-$300 cheaper every time. The broker is just a call center that marks up the rate and posts it on a load board. Only reason I'd use one now is if I had zero time to make calls myself.

1
