My go-to method for avoiding mix-ups in crowded avionics bays

After confusing two similar-looking modules during a group install, I started using bright tape to mark them. It's a small step that prevents big errors and keeps the team on track, doesn't it?

Honestly that reminds me of my friend who wired his whole home theater setup wrong three times. Tbh he finally bought a pack of those cheap colored zip ties and put a different color on each wire end and its matching port. Ngl it was such a simple fix but he said it completely changed the job from a headache to something he could actually finish without wanting to scream. Our brains really do just shut down with too many identical options.

Your friend's three wrong tries are proof our brains just blue screen with too many black wires.

That bright tape trick is such a smart move, and it really points to something bigger. You see this same idea everywhere, like color coded lids in a busy kitchen or marking your own tools in a shared garage. It’s amazing how a little splash of color can shut down confusion before it even starts. Our brains lean on those visual shortcuts so much more than we realize.
