Pro tip: Stop pitching your product in the first 5 minutes of a networking call

I sat through 3 demos last week at the Atlanta Founders meetup where guys started pushing their SaaS before I even introduced myself, and I muted all of them - has anyone else noticed how fast people ghost when you skip the small talk?

Ugh that's the worst, I've definitely walked out of a few conversations like that. Nothing kills the vibe faster than someone trying to sell before they even know your name lol.

Oh man, tell me about it! I once accidentally did that to myself at a networking thing - someone asked what I do and I launched into this whole rehearsed pitch before they even said their name. I felt like such a tool, standing there awkwardly realizing I just talked at a stranger for 2 minutes without any clue who they were. It's like my brain short-circuits and forgets basic human interaction when I'm nervous. At least if I bomb a conversation now, I do it without trying to sell anyone anything. Small victories, right?
