PSA: Ditch the VC money pitch at local meetups

I was at a founder meetup in Austin last Tuesday and watched three people pitch their Series A round like it was a trophy. Nobody even talked about their product or customers. When did building a profitable business stop being the goal?

Oh man, that reminds me of a meetup in Denver where this founder spent twenty minutes explaining his cap table structure and I still have no clue what his company actually did. Everyone nodded along anyway.

Yeah it drives me crazy too. I was at one where this guy spent ten minutes bragging about his term sheet and nobody asked him a single question about his actual software. His product had like fifty users and he was burning cash on fancy office furniture. Build something people want to buy first, then worry about the fancy investor stuff later.
