That 'founder whisperer' in SF who told me to ignore customer feedback was dead wrong

Ngl, I paid this consultant $3,000 for a 2 hour call back in March. He kept saying stop listening to feature requests and just build your vision. So I turned off all feedback channels for 6 weeks. Lost 2 of my 5 beta customers because they felt ignored. One guy literally emailed 'are you even trying to solve my problem?' Took me another month to win them back with apologies and actual fixes. Anyone else ever get terrible scaling advice from someone who never actually ran a b2b company?

Classic "vision" advice from someone who's never missed payroll.

Right, "never missed payroll" - that's a pretty specific dig. I'm genuinely curious though, do you think someone who's never had to worry about making payroll can actually give useful advice on leadership, or is it just automatically worthless to you? Like, is there any way they could have learned that stuff from somewhere else that would make their opinion valid? Or does having that real world struggle behind you give you a completely different perspective on what "vision" even means in a business setting?
