That time our demo crashed in front of a VP at Salesforce

Last month I was in a conference room in downtown Austin, showing our new analytics tool to a VP at Salesforce. About 3 minutes in, the whole dashboard froze and turned into a white screen. I could feel my face getting hot while he just stared at me. Instead of panicking, I pulled out my notebook and started sketching the charts on paper, explaining what each one should show. He actually laughed and said it was refreshing to see someone think on their feet. We rescheduled for two days later, and when the demo worked perfectly, he told me he respected how I handled the mess. Has anyone else had a big prospect that first saw your product fail completely?

The WHITE SCREEN crash in front of a VP? Man, I would've just melted into the floor right there. Sketching it out on paper is actually genius though, how did you stay that calm?

Paper is a solid backup, but white screen crashes aren't the end of the world either. Reminds me, @river_scott, that most VPs have seen it all before and just want a quick fix, not a meltdown. Sketching shows you can think on your feet without panicking, which is honestly just good practice.
