After seeing my brother thrive on a tough climb, I reject cushy family hikes.

Demanding routes with loved ones forge deeper connections.

But have you ever thought about what you might be missing by only doing the hard stuff? Some of the best talks I've had with my family happened on a slow, flat trail where we could just wander and chat without fighting the mountain. A connection doesn't need to be forged in struggle, sometimes it just grows in the quiet, easy moments. I would worry that always chasing the tough climb might leave out the people who can't keep up. For me, the goal is just being together, not how we get there.

That "goal is just being together" part is the whole point, honestly.

Yeah, I read an article about this last week! It talked about how doing something really hard together, like a tough climb, creates a unique kind of teamwork and trust. You're all focused on one goal, helping each other through, and that builds a strong shared memory. It's not that easy walks are bad, but that struggle can fast-track a deep kind of bond.
