Appreciation post: A hiker in Yosemite changed my mind about the JMT

I was set on doing the full John Muir Trail next summer, but a guy at the backpackers' camp said he preferred the High Sierra Trail because it's less crowded and has better views of the Great Western Divide. Now I'm looking at permits for that instead. Has anyone here done both and can compare the resupply points?

That guy at the backpackers' camp really did throw a wrench in my plans, huh? I used to think the JMT was the only way to go, like you had to do it to prove you were a real hiker. But after hearing his take I started looking at pictures of the Great Western Divide and man, that changed my mind completely. @andrew_kelly, on the JMT you can resupply at Reds Meadow and Muir Trail Ranch pretty easily, but the High Sierra Trail only has the one option at Bearpaw Meadow and then you're kind of on your own. It's a trade off, less people but way more planning for food drops.

That guy at the backpackers' camp just cost you about three months of permit planning, huh? Andrew_kelly, the resupply is way easier on the JMT, but you'll see maybe five people total on the High Sierra Trail.

Wow, how did the resupply logistics compare between the two trails?
