Can we talk about the Highline Trail in Glacier? The difference between July and September is insane.

A buddy of mine did it in late September last year. He said the crowds were totally gone but he woke up to three inches of snow on his tent one morning. It's a completely different kind of trip once the season turns.

My buddy tried the Highline in late September a few years back and ended up getting caught in a freak hailstorm that turned into blizzard conditions by the time he got off the trail. He said it was gorgeous but he's never doing it that late again.

Actually, the Highline Trail usually closes way before late September because of snow. The park service often shuts it down by mid-September, sometimes earlier. Your buddy might be thinking of a different trail or got really lucky with the weather. It's a bummer because September is beautiful, but that trail just isn't reliable that late. You really have to watch the park alerts if you're planning a trip for then.
