Choosing between the Lost Coast Trail and the Skyline-to-the-Sea last spring

I picked the Lost Coast for the beach hiking and it was amazing, but the permit system was a real pain. Anyone have tips for snagging those permits before they sell out?

Permit hassle is putting it lightly, @perry.nancy. Last time I tried, they wanted a soil sample and a letter from my firstborn. The inspector showed up to check the paint color and ended up measuring my fence post shadows. Still got a violation for having the wrong kind of mailbox.
