GPS tracks showing the trail on the wrong side of a river - seen it 3 times this month on AllTrails
How are people putting these routes up when the track clearly cuts across a bend in the creek without a bridge or ford, has anyone else noticed this messing up their trip planning?

Read a article a while back that said AllTrails barely checks the user submitted routes before they go live. Basically anyone can throw a GPS track up there and call it a trail even if they never actually walked it themselves. Ive seen it too where the line just shoots straight through a lake or a cliff like its nothing. The problem is people trust the app too much and end up miles off course or worse stuck somewhere they shouldnt be. Always gotta double check with a topo map or satellite view before you head out.

Jumping off what you said about the routes not being verified - I've actually seen a few where the track looks like someone just drew a straight line on a map without ever stepping foot there. One time I was checking out a trail near me and the GPS line went right through a spot I know is a steep ravine with no way across. It's wild how much trust people put in these apps without cross-checking. I always pull up a topo map or satellite view on my phone before I leave the house now.
