Honestly, I was shocked to find out the official PCT mileage is actually 2,653.3 miles, not the 2,650 everyone says, after checking the Pacific Crest Trail Association's site.

Has anyone else found a small but important detail like that for a major trail they were planning?

Can you believe how often those little details get smoothed over?

It's wild how those round numbers stick in our heads. I had the same thing happen with the AT, where the real length changes a bit each year with reroutes. Makes you wonder what else we're all slightly wrong about.

That 2,190 number is burned into my memory too. I remember planning my whole trip around that exact mileage, only to find out later it fluctuates by like 15-20 miles depending on the year. Really makes you step back and question all those other concrete facts we just accept without thinking twice. It's kind of unsettling when you realize how much we treat round numbers as absolute truth. I bet there's a ton of stuff in everyday life where the real number is a lot messier than what we tell ourselves. Solidarity on that AT thing, it's a weird feeling when the numbers don't line up.
