Just realized my $400 satellite messenger was worth every penny after a freak snowstorm on the PCT last October.

Wait are we really acting like bringing a satellite messenger on a hike is some kind of life or death necessity now? lol. I get that snowstorms can be sketchy but honestly most people who get in trouble on the PCT are just unprepared or ignore basic weather forecasts. If you're already carrying a beacon, water, and warm clothes, you're probably fine without spending 400 bucks on a gadget you'll use once. Plus those things have terrible battery life in cold weather anyway, I've heard. Feels more like a flex than an actual survival tool most of the time.

So you only realized it was worth it after you almost got turned into a human popsicle? Classic. Guess the sales pitch about "peace of mind" hits different when you're actually freezing. Bet you won't call it an overpriced brick again. Glad it worked out before you became a permanent trail marker.
